      Hi Imogen!
      It doesn't sound bad at all - when I first started blogging I had no idea what anything meant and I still get confused by all the technical stuff! Blog buttons are the things some people have on their sidebars - they are basically an image which when clicked on, take you to the blog it represents. People in blogging use them to advertise their blogs on other peoples, as a way of getting your blog more well known.
      When I made my blog button, I used this website (http://oikology101.blogspot.co.uk/2008/09/make-your-own-button-for-your-blogger.html) to help me out and it explains it all there - hopefully that should help!xo
